Brought the Samsung NX100 out on a field trip to DKNY Jeans' Fashion Party! Got invites courtesy of YY, so I brought along Sonia, newly inducted member of the Sheila Sim Fan (Girls) Club:

Note to self: Stop taking photos with good looking people.

How do you like the photos? The camera's performance exceeded my expectations that night~

And here's a breakdown of my impression of the Samsung NX100 so far!

Weight

I prefer bringing this camera out instead of my D90 mainly due to the significant weight difference; just imagine trying to party with a professional DSLR (and a bunch of heavy lenses) for company.

Focus

Can be painfully slow at night (a good 1-2 seconds?), but it's still acceptable when you take the less-than-fantastic lighting conditions into consideration.

Image Quality

Superb for web, but I'd use a DSLR if I intend to make prints.

Video Quality

I think it actually produces better videos than my D90! Based on the videos from The Whitest Boy Alive concert, the sound quality is really amazing. (Those videos will be edited ...eventually.)

Be careful not to overheat the camera by continously recording videos though.

Lenses

At the moment, the functionality of camera seems to be rather limited (to me, la) due to its lack of low aperture lenses. But I believe that more lenses are already in development, so this is something that will definitely improve over time.

Flash

BEST. FLASH. EVER. I'm saying that cause it makes my complexion look better /shallow. TTL mode is very straightforward, but I've yet to figure out how to use it in Manual mode. Here's an unedited example:

Do note that the NX100 does not have a pop up flash- the one I used was the external Flash SEF20A.

In conclusion

If you're not planning to use your photos for "professional" purposes, the Samsung NX100 is a great companion to have if you wouldn't like to be caught dead with a cumbersome DSLR at parties, casual events, and on trips!

All photos were taken by yours truly, with the Samsung NX100 + 50-200mm F4-5.6 lens. Group photo with Sheila Sim taken by Timothy from Lifestyle Asia, thank you!
